got a bigbore kit with 395 intake cam and was told that i wouldnt have valve clearance probs...more bucks for titanium retainers...help...what is the proper clearance?

are you having piston to valve clearance issues or retainer to seal clearance issues..what are your #'s now to make u think u have clearance issues?

at max lift, you want to see atleast .050" retainer to seal..

thanks for the info......so if i only have .005---.010 putting in the titanium retainers wont help...i would need to put in shorter guides?

most aftermarket retainers will give you more clearance but it's hard to say how much you will get..all you can do is put them in and check and see how much you gained..if it gives you enough, you're good to go..if not, you have to take the next step with the guides..

I put web 395/378 cams in my gen 2 busa last year. I ran them most of last year without any problems. I never heard any thing about retainer to valve seal clearance untill after I put them in. I thought I only needed to worry if I had 415 cams.
Now I hear their are problems with 395's. I never checked retainer to seal clearance when I installed them because I thought it would not be a issue. I will be taking it apart again in the next month or two and am now wondering if I should put ape ti retainers in.

Our regular ti retainers will give you .030" more clearance and allow you to run 395s without contacting the seal. Our offset retainer gives you .060" extra clearance and lets you run 420s without short guides.
