My question only refers to *removing* the transmission, similar to what one might do in a home garage somewhere prior to taking it to a shop for work.

What is a typical cost that I should expect when paying someone to pull a transmission? Also, how might that cost compare to what I'd pay if I had a shop do it prior to the same shop doing additional work?

I can be done fairly cheaply if you do it yourself. for me the biggest cost was the special tool to remove the engine, torque wrenches, book and new gaskets. its not hard.

I do much of my own ish, but I doubt that I have the patience to do this one in my unheated garage during the winter. Plus, I'm lazy as a mf

No fun when it's freezing but this is. Something you could do in your basement on work bench... I have a homemade engine stand and do all of my motor work there.
