I purchased a used turbo system for the '07/'08 GSXR1000. It has a GT28 turbo that makes 6.5 psi boost.

Do any of you have experience with a similar turbo on similar bike? Any hints as I start to plan this combination?

Thanks in advance! :2thumbs:

I have a GT 2530 turbo on a '06 GSXR 1000 and it has been run HARD for 14K miles with no issues ay 8 psi boost on the stock motor. It made 254 HP and was tuned a hair rich by Mikey Slowe which is probably why this baby is still alive. The only downside is that sooner or later you'll want more boost as I do. Enjoy!

Thanks for the reply. I am thankful for any info at this point.

Will the GT28 be similar to the GT2530? Please educate me on the turbo sizing, assume frame or exducer size?

Will the GT28 make similar numbers as to what you are indicating? I would be very satisfied with those numbers. I guess I would have to change the wastegate spring to an 8 psi spring from the 6.5 psi spring currently installed. PO said it produced 23xWHP at 6 psi.

There is a fairly local guy (Johnny Cheese) that I anticipate doing the tune.

Yea if you have the Tial Wastegate you can change your Red 5.8 lb wastegate spring to the Small Green 7.2 lb. spring and still run pump gas. If you have the balls you may try the Small Blue 8.7 lb. spring on pump and stock internals. The rest of them I would definitely use race Gas. Here's the rest of them: Large Yellow 10.1 lbs, Large Red 11.6 lbs, Large Green 13.0 lbs and the Large Blue is 14.5 lbs. To get more boost that this you would have to add the small springs and large to run them together. Your turbo is a hair larger than mine so it may spool a bit slower but make better top end power obviously. The new GTX series turbos like the 3071 are available now with the 11 blade billet compressor wheel and it's told that they flow 10% better than what we currently have. I'm sure that the 30 series are a bit laggy compared to ours but with a built motor I'm sure the 3071 will shine at 20 psi.

Thanks for the awesome info guys. There seems to be a lot of info on PB that I am looking forward to tapping through the turbo addition.

Many thanks for the helpful replies and the details on experiences.

As a side note, I had a local guy that "highly recommended" I not go over 4 psi on the stock engine. My thought is that at 4 psi, why bother. I am thinking more along the lines of "small green" spring (or possibly the"small blue" spring) in the Tial wastegate to allow just over 7 psi (possibly over 8 psi). Are these springs just ordered from distributors who carry Tial wastegates?

Again, thanks for all of the insight. It is much appreciated.
