Default ball bearing turbo worth the upgrade?

Is the upgrade from journal to ballbearing worth the hundreds of bucks.its worth? I guess the same guestion goes for the billet wheel?

Just curious.I feel if you are leaving.on some sort of boost you are already sitting.on the boost controller so lag isnt much of a issue and if the turbo can already make more power then can be fully used is ballbearing worth the upgrade? Let me.know what you guys think im trying to learn!!

    Thanks guys

If you already have a turbo that is working, I would not change to a ball bearing. You will likely see very little to no difference. Nothing wrong with a journal bearing.

Kind of like ceramic Bearings in wheels. The turbo will spin longer if ya flick it, but under loaded operation, the benefits are not as defined.

Are you going to upgrade to a bigger ball bearing turbo? Ball bearing turbos will spoil faster than journal bearing turbos. If your are going to stay with the same size turbo then no would just leave it. If your are upgrading to a bigger turbo i would go ball bearing.

i would guess that the ball bearing turbo would last longer between rebuilds, but i have been around a ball bearing turbo. the bike with turbos i have been around have all been journal turbos

Neither one should really EVER need to be rebuilt for the service life a bike will bring to it... On top of that, a fair amount of ball bearing turbos are not rebuildable under normal circumstances

cool, i wasnt speaking from experience. and i had a typo i meant that i had not been around bb turbos, i was pit crew chief for a local funny bike racer for several years and he had the rajay he was using rebuilt once during our work together, it had lots of shaft play and started puking oil and of course i have no clue what the life of it was before he got the bike. could be more to its failure than meets the eye. lots of good advice out there from members like sportbikeryder with alot more knowledge than I.
