New to boost and full of questions.....

Ok guys I've decided to turbo my 03 gsxr 1000, I bought a used kit with everything except a inline fuel pump and fuel pressure gauge. I'm going to put a thick head gasket and head studs in it as well. The turbo is a T04E .50 a/r compressor, .63 a/r turbine with an internal waste gate. My question is will this turbo work for me since I'm only planning on running 5 - 7 lbs of boost or should I find one with an external waste gate. Thanks for any help you can give me cause I'm going to need it!!

External WG is the way to go...

You can probably convert your turbo to external wastegate if you or someone near you can do some minor fabrication
post a pic of the turbo ,
it will give you much better control of your boost levels and reduce the chance of a meltdown

Internal wastegates are known for boost spiking no matter what kinda boost..Your going have do major mods to convert it..but have been used for years//.

We had a Buddies converted but the company took 6 months to do and I wouldnt recommend them to anyone..

ok so looks like i should sell and get a different turbo.... Is there anyone who sells a dump pipe with the wastegate and all ready to bolt up? Or whats the best way to set one up?

That turbo is easy
unbolt the wastegate section and bore the existing wastegate outlet
with any luck its the same flange (There are 2 that look like that) as something like this

Yea that does..My buddie didnt have any part that unbolted like that and has to be machined off and pipes welded right to the hot side..

this might help, I converted to from internal to external. the v bands are optional. I dont have any pictures one the 3rd version. I have since moved the wastegate a little more and cermaic coated the exhaust housing.

Don't put a thicker head gasket on. You'll throw away power. You want the squish. You certainly don't need to lower the comp on that kinda boost.
8 lbs of boost and lower the compression is like adding 4 psi. Plus it's a turd from a stop.
