Reading Plugs
This is a discussion about Reading Plugs within the Tuning Performance section, where you will Engine mods-Tuning talk
for all Sport Bikes
Every little bit helps!; ill be honest...im being kinda unrealistic...im fortunate to have unlimited free access to all the dyno and tuning equipment i need..not everyone has that...and if you dont, DO keep an eye on your plugs lol.

the scenario you described DOES make the sensors happy...but simply hooking up the temp probes to each headers on a dyno pull can tell you if your average is right...if you have 3 cylinders that are at 650-700 degrees, and one that is at 1100 degrees...well. you got a problem.. and again, thats why i say use ALLL your info. not just the a/f by itself.
if my dyno tells me i make the most power at 12.8 afr and x degrees timing, then im gonna do whatever it takes to keep it at 12.8... not 13.1 or 11.5 "because the plug said so"...ill put in a hotter/colder plug and then re-dyno several fueling maps to see if it still like the same afr until i find the plug/afr combo that makes the most power everywhere...there is ALWAYS more power to be found.
man we can argue for hours bout different ways to tune a bike! in the end, there is no "right" way, (several wrong ones though lol) what really matters is that you dont burn up parts and break stuff and that you win races...like i said, dont NOT look at your plugs...its a real quick and easy way to keep from breaking stuff, but dont rely on ONLY that.
yep, back and forth for days. the number of guys that know what to do with electronics is probably the same amount of guys that can actually read a plug.

nos controll....just my 2 cents. and yes about shutting down at the end of the run. where are you located?
I know that the nitrous controller will let me leave the line at a controlled amount of spray and therefore make the bike much easier to control as it ramps the nitrous in but i'm assuming that it is also easier on the motor. Instead of having X amount of horses kicking it in the mouth it gets a ramp. I'm sittin at 60 inches and sprayin straight off the line with no progression was a little like slapping an angry donkey on the ass with a ping pong paddle. She wanted me off in a hurry. So to wrap my head around what my motor is actually doing i'm gonna need info from a lot of different sources to compile the actual "picture" if you will of what is happening in the chamber. So far we're talking EGTs for each cylinder, possibly a knock sensor input, and def the A/F ratio. O and i'm located in south mississippi about 30 minutes north of the hub city drag strip, which would be Laurel.

i picked up 2 just changing the plugs on a 3 run/3 run average but it was also with the cr9e cross part...they dont have one for the 10s yet i think. Im assuming the 10s might of picked up even a lil more.

yes progrossing is easier on the motor, and faster. you can bring gas in sooner to. or come in big at like 60% initital for .4 seconds when you go wot at the start, then ramp it down as your bike gets into the power band, then ramp it back up...(to prevent wheelies)
you dont really need ALL those sensors on your bike, but its helpful if your dyno shop has them. you def need an a/f logger though and like i said, i would use the NC2

Re: Reading Plugs
Damn there are some real smart tuners on this thread. My Ideal situation is an O2 sensor in each cylinder. You get the best data from that sensor over the EGT. I have never used the knock sensor. xclr82xtc where are you at. I may want to come to your dyno...lucky bastard LOL!! Oh yea I dont know where I would mount them and find a titanium welder. Not to mention who has a system that could log 4 O2's at the same time. I know Wego has a nice system on the cheap. Otherwise I guess it would have to be a Racepak if you got the loot.

What is it about the NC2 that you prefer over the Dynojet's LCD-200?
After I get an A/F logger on the bike I will most likely switch to a Bazzaz setup. Dynojet wants you to buy and buy and buy everything seperately. Sounds like the penny pinchers are winning the battle over there. Where can I cross reference my NGK part number to the E3 number?

There is only one listing so i'm assuming the majority of street bikes are using the same thread pattern and plug depth?

The Dyno i use can only log two at a time, but its not to hard to make a few extra pulls. Im in NC. My homie has EGT in each cylinder, and i think he is using a motec. Ill check for sure. the easiest thing to do would be to get a DL32. it will log 32 channels at once. you could use your stock ecu with it, and tap into several items like the vss timing, fuel pulse etc...thats what i would do anyways, unless you wanna pop for a standalone with that much datalogging capability.

The NC2 is a MAINLY a 2 stage nitrous controller. but it will also log 2 channels. it also has a rpm activated output that you can use for a auto shift or a timing box to pull timing. i also like the fact that with the NC2 you can ramp both up AND down, time based, or my favorite RPM based. one day ill show you a HP graph from the dyno that looks like a vtwin tourque line
The LCD screen is nice, but really all you can do with it is a lil data logging and change maps...i can change maps with my lap top, so i know where i would spend my money.

the last i talked to them, they said there wasnt a problem the could duplicate. but if it uses a single timing circuit, then im assuming they are full of it. still a good controller thought. call and ask and let us know what they say. i think they guy you wanna talk to is chris.
