turning forks backwards

ok ive seen this agood bit on different bikes and i have yet to figure out y people tunr there forks the opposite direction some psycho world y y do this mod wat are the ups and downs of this?

you lose the front fender..but some bikes are low enough you cant run it anyways

and its just to transfer the weight of the caliper from behind the axle to directly ontop of it?

It moves the weight in front of the axle but also higher. so who knows if it helps or not but it doesnt cost anything to try so worst case I flip'em back around.
