Default A new handgun law in VA as of tomorrow

As of July 1, 2010, Virginia Code § 18.2-308(J3) will change to allow concealed handgun permit holders to carry concealed in restaurants and clubs that serve alcoholic beverages for on premise consumption, however the permit holder cannot drink alcoholic beverages while carrying concealed. Police officers, on and off duty, as well as Commonwealth Attorneys, can carry concealed and drink responsibly. Open carry remains unchanged by the new law and allows for responsible consumption of alcoholic beverages.[269][270]

ok..let me get this straight...if you "just" have a concealed carry permit, you can carry but not drink...but if you work for the government, you can do whatever you want? ....

i can understand the rights of attorneys and police officers need for protection that goes beyond the need for the citizen.

can you imagine the danger they both put themselves and family in with there line of work?

but i agree it would be nice to have the same rights.

I don't think a handgun in a place that serves alcohol is a good idea period.

a guy (racer) that spends 20k on an engine, and he has a part failure understands that its part of racing.

the guy that buys a showroom edition and burns up 1 clutch plate hes the guy you got to worry about while your in the establishment having your drink on,hes out for blood and everything else he can get. lol

did no one else see the last phrase?

"Open carry remains unchanged by the new law and allows for responsible consumption of alcoholic beverages"

"Open carry" meaning completely with in sight of others and not concealed in anyway...

SOOO I could walk into any bar with my handgun on my hip with my shirt tucked in and order a beer... I guess if everyone knew i had a gun they could be more prepared??

In my state I can carry my handgun concealed or semi concealed (mostly at high speeds on my bike) but I cannot enter any establishment that makes more than 50% of its income from alcohol sales, my class basically said if your not sure dont carry in the business. now im not sure how my states open carry law is worded regaurding open carry in various places simply because it doesnt interest me to go cowboy style and show it off to the world..
