me and a couple of friends made our first trip to the dragon this past weekend. i usually drag my bike, but wanted to experience something alittle diffrent, and boy was it diffrent than anything i have ever ridden. i have never been a coner carver but i had the time of my life. everyone there was soo friendly, even the cops. we made our first run thru the dragon and stopped at the end to rest a little, and the cops pulled up. i thought here we go. they got out their patrol car and approched us and started talking. they were really cool. told us to be careful and have a good time and not to get hurt, they actually sat arond a few mins telling diffrent stories. not at all like the cops i am used to. i had plans of selling my 6r and getting a 10r to set up for drag, but now i think i will keep the 6 just for trips to the dragon and getting a 10r for the strip. i love the 1/4 mile but 318 turns in 11 miles is alot more fun than i thought it would be. since myrtle beach doesnt want bikers anymore. i think i will replace them with a yearly trip to the dragon, plus it is some of the most beautiful country i have ever seen. just curious if anyone else has been and what they think of it.:2thumbs:
Dont believe that for one min. Ive been three times. First time it was like a swat team in there. THey where hidding in the woods with camo on. ONe around each curve. They took pics of the speeders then wrote tickets at the end. Now this was Tenn. Second time just like u said. Cool as crap. U would think that there your friend. Next time same way. Ticket after ticket. My friend went 5 over and got a careless and wreakless. Just a word of warning. Its a tourist attraction. And cash cow for the state of TENN.
Been there many times, never had a problem with LEO. Usually go atleast a couple times a year. Try if you can to go to the Dragon during the week instead of the weekend. There are also many great roads to ride in the area besides the dragon. The SkyWay is one of the best as is 28 all the way to Franklin, etc, etc. Use some common sense and enjoy. If you need a place to stay and not into expensive motels and cabins the Kickstand Lodge is a great place to stay right on 28 in Stecoah Valley.
like i said it was my first time, maybe we caught them(leo) in a good mood, but they were friendly to us. but you have to use common sense when riding. alot of people were flying around those turns, easy to tell who goes alot. alittle too risky for me to really push it. i will be going back again, yes the skyway was cool also, but the beautiful view was worth the trip.
I have a friend that goes 5-6 times a year on his 636 and is one of the fastest there. He has been going for 5 years now and has never gotten a ticket.
The gf and I we`re planning a trip this summer to the dragon,, What I want to know is what you guys do with you bikes overnite,, I have would have a hard time leaving the bikes outside in a motel parking lot,,In case they get stolen,,
There are several motorcycle only places to stay in the area. Some offer camping other don't. It's been my experience that when you stay in one of those types of places you never have to worry bout you wheels.
i live on 129 about 45mins from the dragon-it is a cash cow. if you just want to cruise, you won't get a ticket, but you'll get passed at 100mph by a matt mladin wannabe on the inside and outside of a curve, as well as some head on bikes passing in oncoming traffic. if you try to go up there and have fun, you'll come home with a pocket full of tickets. i NEVER go up there anymore-just not worth it.
