Calling all engine GURU's (riddle for you)
Ok guys, I’m tired of pulling out my hair ( I’m actually bald):buttrock. I have been having a problem with my bike ( 2000 turbo Busa) since doing my re-flash. LET ME MAKE THIS PERFECTLY CLEAR…THE RE-FLASH IS NOT THE ISSUE! I got my bike to fire, but it seemed that it was really lean. I installed a LC-1 to monitor the AF so I could see problems coming. Ok, I’ll admit I changed my cam timing, please know that I am not a novice and I have done this a thousand times, I’ve checked it a hundred times since, and I know it’s right. (I think,… starting to question my skills!) The bike started to kick back on me! It will turn over 6 to 7 times then…wonk! 6 to 7 times…wonk! Now I thought it was my battery…new one installed, same thing. To make matters worse, after I put the new battery, It kicked back and broke my DAMN cases!!! Well, new cases, timing good, new starter…SAME ****!!! If I unplug my injectors, IE no fuel intrusion, bike cranks over fine. Plug them back up WONK open the throttle and it spins over fine.
WHAT THE ****!!!
Somebody help!

I don't build turbo's, but if you disconnect the injectors or even the ignition of course it isn't goi g to do it. Your're having a problem the timing misfiring. I don't know the setup you have so I couldn't even guess.

TIMING...either mechanical or fuel/ ignition.I don't know if its possible with a reflash(Im not familiar with the software) but turn it over by hand with the degree wheel on it and valve cover on with your laptop hooked up and the bike powered up. You should be able to see all the sensor info.Look and see if the sensor info is corresponding with where the engine is in its rotation. The ecu thinks the motor is where it should be to fire but its not. Check the cam sensor and camshaft where it picks up its signal as well as the crank and sensor something is more than likely wrong in one of those areas.

Thanks for the reply, that's really interesting. What would the degree wheel tell me, and woundn't I get a code if there was an issue with the CPS?

Re: Calling all engine GURU's (riddle for you)
its too advanced. the plug is firing off too early and since its not at tdc yet it tries to send the piston back down in the wrong direction..
IF YOU CAN\"T RACE IT OR TAKE IT TO BED IT AIN\"T WORTH HAVING !!!!!
IF YOU CAN TURN YOUR NOT GOING FAST ENOUGH !!!

Re: Calling all engine GURU's (riddle for you)
How advanced is too advanced? I set the cams at 106 in 108 ex.
I guess it's possible that I done it wrong, but I've done it a thousand times. That was my next move though, redo the cams.

Re: Calling all engine GURU's (riddle for you)
What did you change with the reflash?
Has it done this since you installed the newer ECU and rotor or did it work ok for awhile?
I assume you swapped the ecu connector pins and the polarity on the crank sensor?

Re: Calling all engine GURU's (riddle for you)
first thing I would do is try a stock ECU what do you use to control fuel? just the ECU? and 2 When you did the cams are you 100% sure the whole thing went back together right?

Re: Calling all engine GURU's (riddle for you)
every time I have seen this, the crank and cams are not together. And usually the cams are 180 off the crank. I am not sure why, but the injectors are off timing with the cams. In other words, the ign and injectors are out of phase as the ign gets its siginal from the crank, and the injectors from the cams. Its firing the number four injector when it should be firing the number one.
and it should make no diference, but it does. And I am not clear why, but in the box, it knows.

x2 i would try a stock ecu first also. and then you can assume its not the ecu.what values were changed about the ecu. what year ecu. what fuel enrichment or timing retard do you have other than the ecu. seems to be firing to early or firing on the wrong stroke like its 180 out.

Re: Calling all engine GURU's (riddle for you)
Doing it with the degree wheel on it will let you see in degrees of crankshaft rotation where in engine rotation its getting signal from the sensors. That way you can check and see if its getting the right signal at the right TIME.

How are you degreeing the cams without using a degree wheel??? Make sure you haven't plugged a coil connector to the wrong coil. Are you getting an FI light and what is the code if you are??? What year motor are you running and are the cams for the same year???
