    Default shocks

ok i have been talking with alot of people and posted this same question on a couple other boards and have had no direct answer to this ? hoping someone here has done this and has some definate answers if i was to put a stroker crank in my engine i know that i would get about 5 hp and 10 ft pds of torgue per mm of stroke and what the cost would be for this i also know if i put a 1397 piston kit in a stock bike i will make anywhere between 195 and 210 hp on a stock motor and what that will cost

but if i take a stock shock and revalve it or just a stock shock and play with the settings vs a penske or equall shock installed what am i going to gain i have had some people say i will gain 1 - 3 tenths off my 60 foot time i have had steve at orient express say that basically it is a good tuning tool and i may gain in the 60 foot and i may gain down the track the delima is i dont want to spend app 800 on a shock that may do nothing more than pick up a couple of hundreths

right now i am running a stock shock at 67 inches straight link making about 225 on motor and 165 more on spray my best 60 foot time has been 1.44 with 16 44 gearing but on a spray pass i run out of gear about the 1000 foot mark with gearing that will run the bike out the back my best 60 foot time is 1.50 and normally about 1.51 the bike carries the front tire thru first gear about 2 or 3 inches off the ground set up like this oh yes and i weigh about 210 in leathers and run a micky back tire

so far like i said no one has given me a guaruntee that if i go with a good shock and spring i will pick up x amount of time off of the addition of this so i guess i will take the stock shock and run some test and tune days with this setup and i do have one guy who said he has a penske shock and would let me use it to test with and then i will do the same thing with it and see what happens i am not a chasis guy yet but i may be becoming one this year with some help and alot of test runs HAS ANYONE DONE THIS YET AND CAN GIVE ME SOME CONCRETE ANSWER TO WHAT GAINS THEY HAVE GOTTEN!!!!!!!!!!!!

it will be different for everyone. If you have tuned your stock shock to where it works perfect, you will not see as much gain on a aftermarket shock compared to someone who has no clue on setting up a shock and has there setup on their stock shock way outta wack. Aftermarket shocks work, but there is no exact number on how much you will gain out of one

I think I will start off by saying if its not broke don't fix it. The aftermarket shock will give you more tuning ability but if theres nothing wrong with how it is now don't buy one

Oh and with the stock shock and clutch if you change the way you leave you can get 1.42 to 1.45 60's with a stock clutch at 70in. I'v done it. Just turn the spring down as far as you can get it and tune from there before you spend that much money. Just my 2 cents.

the stock shock wont get the same performance as the aftermarket shock
when you are at the point you are now the shock is worth the money due to the wheelbase and 60's you are looking to get youll need to add the avaiable tuning the shock will give you
you and i have spoke of this a few times but i am just putting this up here
you need to be able to squat the rear fast enough to transfer the weight to the rear but not so fast it pogos back up so the valving in a stock shock wont allow you to do this properly
you cant just slap one on with out tuning it to your riding style
but it will allow you to leave harder and get more out of the chassis then the stock shock ever will

hopefully we get some other racers input to what there experiences are with the stock vs the aftermarket shocks
