I've been asked this question a thousand times. "How much hp does a hook up loose on the dyno?" After putting a hook up on a busa, it lost 2-3 mph and a 2-3 tenths. I contributed it to the weather. I put the bike on the dyno and got 165 hp. I pulled the hook up off and put on a pilot power. The next pull was 175 hp. Put the shinko back on and got 165 hp again.
does the shinko weigh more? is the shinko sticking to the drum and giving you an accurate hp reading and the other tire spinning more on the drum or not as sticky and creating less drag?
Guys, it is similar to an ultrasoft vs a hard tire, just worse. Nothing to do with the weight, the tire compound just causes so much more heat generation on the dyno.
I dyno'd my turbo bike with an ultrasoft on it before putting on a hard street tire and the ultrasoft looked like it was hit with a blow torch.
It's loosing power due to how soft it is...the knurls on the drum are biting and holding the tire...I see the same exact thing with the m/t snd dragtec tires when we have to dyno with them..air it up a bunch and then strap it tight to the dyno, it will help alot..
If a bike makes 175 with a normal street tire,it will make that 165 with the shinko. somewhere slightly higher(than 165) with the M/T and higher yet with the Mich. Put a 7in.slick on and loose alittle more. Put that motor in front of a 10 in slick and your at 150-155 and in front of an 11 and get 145. Just like Dwayne said, put air in the race tires and you can move the power around (alot).
Use the dyno as a tuning tool like its supposed to be used and dont worry with the initial #s.
Not ment to be a smart ass answer just info thats all
Any race compound tire on the dyno you will see the most dyno hp on the first pull.if you do back to back pulls you will see less dyno hp every pull after the first pull unless you let tire compound cool down..
Been that way for years since shinko or any race soft compound tire was used on dyno..
