    Default Shinko Hook up issues

Due to the recent issues with the shinko hook-up tires, please post here f you have first hand knowledge of an issues with the hook-up tires on any bike, but more specifically issues with prostreet style high powered bikes.

Please keep the thread clean of generic opinions and he said / she said stories and stick to data experienced or witnessed at the track (rather than just seen on the you-tube video of Eunice).

Please include all data known about the issue (wheel manufacturer and width, tire pressure, issue type, photos, etc).

Additionally, any racer with experience of other tires seemingly "de-beading" at high speeds both past and present will be helpful.

I personally have not had any issues with the tire, however, I am rapidly approaching what woudl be considered prostreet speeds, just waiting to turn the boost up from my current 176 mph top end.

I encourage a comment or statement from the Shinko Tire Representitive(s) as well.

Again, please do not clutter with opinions of generic recommendations about this or other tires, rather issues experienced with the tire.

    John Gover

Thanks for making this thread. I am very curious aswell. We have a hook up waiting to go on the new pro street build, but am concerned with the issues so far. Good to hear you have atleast been 170+ with no issues.

Put on well over 100 of these tires since the first of the year. 0 problems reported or seen. Navaro was very fast but said he was up on tire pressure when compaired to the MT and P1.
I said in another post that when you can unseat a bead with hand pressure or it only takes 6 lbs to seat a bead, then low tire pressure and tire speed will unseat it rather easy.
Alot of this is caused by wheel design also.
Beadlocks or rim screws will be the proper fix.
Dont think you will find any tire issues.

i personally wouldnt run one of these tires or the MCR2's without a bead lock due to them being of a wrinkle wall style design they can easily break the bead

I am the lightweight Jockey of possibly the fastest grudge 1000 in the South. In grudge racing, you want to go with what works all the time and the Shinko Hook Up on the Half Breed bike has worked wonders. Due to the fact that its a grudge bike, I can not put numbers out there but this thing is very very powerful with a healthy shot so i give it 5 stars!

No known issues here either, you would think since there is a 200 option these Pro Street guys with wide wheels would opt to use that so it's a better fit!

I have personally used/tested the Shinko Hookup tire for close to a year now without any issues with the production tires. Some issues surfaced in some of the early production tires that we were testing, but they are not worth metioning simply because they have been addressed and corrected by Shinko. I have used the hookup on bikes that have covered the quarter mile in excess of 190 mph without issues. That is factual info, not any he said/she said. Chris Jones

    Like stated above,

Going down to super lower pressures on a tire without a bead-lock or rim screws is a receipt for disaster no matter how you look at it. Its going to spin on the rim and its going to deflate, period end of story. Now if the tire is coming apart that is a different story.

Since I do a lot chassis set-up on bikes I watch a lot of bikes out their. The 2 major issues I see are the following.

    1. People running a 6 5/8 rim. That pulls very hard on the tire bead. Think about it this way. On the top end the tire tries to grow. Now it pulls really hard on the bead the more it grows and without the proper pressure it will pop off due low air and to wide of a wheel.

    2. To low of air. I have seen some people really think that less air hooks better. That is true if you are at the point it is to high. I see a lot of bikes that try to run 6-8. That I feel is way to low. Their is no reason it shouldn't be in the 10-12 psi or even higher on a Pro Street Bike. On a bike with 64" wheel base it should be around 18 psi and a short 62" or less 24 psi or more is starting. Now that info is if the chassis is working correctly. If it is not right I don't care how much air is in it the bike just will not work correctly.

Now keep in mind more PSI is free ET and MPH and that's just the way it works. So my guess is in most and I'm saying 99% of time it is from improper use. I hope some of the info helps. Ed

i switched from the mickey to the shinko mainly because of the cost difference . i did have a problem with the bike pulling left,i triple checked the alignment and even bought a new swing arm and it still pulled but i was so happy with the way the shinko was holding up and how well it hooked that i just bought another one and have had no issues with the new one and in shinko's deffense i've had pulling issues with mickey thompson and goodyear slicks on my car tire bikes over the years also.my bike runs between 166 and 172 mph at 10 psi with no bead problems so i can't tell you anything about 200 mph but i plan to keep using the hook up tire.
