    Default Shinko Hook-Up tested

Finally got to the track with a Shinko Hook-up (190).

Tire pressure was set at 14 psi.

Tire hooked great at MIR. That said, track prep was excellent (as usual at MIR) and short times were less than spectacular, mostly low 1.40's. Bike / rider combo weight was a hefty 780 lbs.

The tire seems to wear very well. Initial tread depth ranged from .198" - .201". After 12 passes, the tread depth measured .189-.194". Tire is very soft at temperature. (yes, only ~ .010" wear after 12 passes)

These tires do weigh a fair amount more than an MCR2 (I weighed an MCR2 and Hook-up back to back and the Hook-Up was 900grams heavier, this is approx 2 lbs.)

Overall I was satisfied with the tire. The tread surface looks very homogeneous with no abnormal tearing or unusual marks.

I give props to Shinko for the tire (Purchased from Doug Ray at Spencer Cycle) and Props to Jason Miller for running another stellar program at MIR

If only I was not an idiot with my new turbo motor (Hint, be sure to take inventory on all of your shop rags prior to leaving the garage, I'd have a second bike with the Hook-up on it to write about...

Yeah, we probably could have put 22psi in it the way the track was prepped. This was not my bike, Mine had a lil "Mishap" with the motor....

No, I had to leave it home yesterday, and I will be in Wisconsin next week for work and we will not be able to make the re-scheduled event.

My mis hap was a bonehead leave a piece of paper towel in my engine only to get sucked up by the oil pickup. Luckily it was only while putting down the street for a simple test ride and not under power.

REgardless, i am pulling the motor back out to clean it and probably put new bearing in it.

Sorry to hear about your motor mishap but glad it is repairable with hopefully no real damage. Thanks for the info on the tire.

    Update on the tire wear:
Now up to 21 passes with tread depth now at .172-.175
~.028 wear from new with 21 passes.

We had been having 6th gear shifting problems with the bike and it woudl only run 161.5 mph (rev limiter in 5th gear @ 11,200). Every burnout was a good one though. This is approximately a 3-3-2 burnout in Ricihe Speak I have not monitired tire temp or durometer (probably should though)

The tread surface still looks very homogeneous with no abnormal tearing or unusual marks.

I think we got the shifting solved last night by going to fuel and ignition kill, so we may be at MIR next weekend....
