Default AMA Dragbike Classes Dying ?

Guys i have been a fan of motorcycle dragracing for a long time now and i noticed that the last AMA dragbike event had only 1 bike in Top Fuel (Larry Spiderman McBride) and only 8 competitors in supersport. The other classes seemed pretty full. I was wondering if they are going to have him do exhibition type runs next year because there doesnt seem to be any competitors? Also SS seems kinda low- anybody have any thoughts on this ?

They should get rid of of that class, scratch the 5000 dollar guaranteed pay that the one bike class gets and give that to Prostreet. ProStreet deserves more then a 2000 payout. They attract the crowd and are more exciting to watch.

SS seems to have always had a low turnout. This class is nowhere near what it claims to be anymore either. Stock my *SS with limited mods. If it where a true SS class I would run for sure.

    Hi David
Just curious what series do you race.

Yes bike count has been down at AMA Dragbike and MIRock.
Both series do as much as they can for the racers.

The economy and unemployment is rough right now and a lot of racers are staying close to home.I'll probly just be doing one series in 2011.But here is a unemployment report from cnn.

Nearly half of all U.S. states reported rising unemployment rates in March, the government said Friday, with rates above the national average in 11 states and the District of Columbia.

A total of 24 states suffered jobless rate increases in March, according to the Labor Department's monthly report. But rates declined last month in 17 states and the District of Columbia.

On an annual basis, jobless rates increased in 44 states and D.C. in March. That's down from a total of 46 states in February.

The Labor Department said earlier this month that the nation's economy gained 162,000 jobs in March. But the national unemployment rate held steady at 9.7% for the third month in a row.

Many economists and policymakers expect the nationwide jobless rate to remain elevated for some time to come, even as job growth slowly resumes.

What about PRO MOD it was hard for some to even make the field at times now just show up and U R N da field what has happen we can't say that time are tough because u have a AMA race in atlanta and only have 7-8-or 9 bike but on the same day in cecil u have another 7-8 pro mod at the track testing that are in this area. just like PRO STREET guy are sick of building 30-40 dollar bikes to when 2 stacks and run a full f@@@@kin 1/4 come on man get real thats why so many are going ADRL. All i am saying be smart about it make the change and HELP the sport stay alive. just my 2 cents

SS is an ok class, but most people want to see faster bikes I believe. Pro Street & Real Street bikes roll out and are far more exciting to watch.

I have to agree with Jason, I think those are the best two classes going right now. Times are tough for most right now and without some sort of sponsorship it's very expensive to race for a weekend with travel, entry, accomodations, food, , etc.
