Bonneville veteran, Larry Forstall built this bike in the early 90's, he made a shake down pass on wet salt and it was put aside for @ 15 years. I had it shipped up to Alberta, we literally got it running the night before we had to leave for Speed Week. The first time I put it in gear and let out the clutch was on the start line. Larry built a solid bike, very stable and very cool. We found a weak link in the coupler for the 2 engines, that held us back. I made several shake down passes myself, top speed was 203mph at only 3/4 throttle, lots of wheel spin!! Its a cacklefest, the spectators love when we start it.
I scored a couple of new big blocks and decided to bump the pair of 1255's up to 1316cc each. We won't have it ready for Speed Week this year but I'm looking forward to returning it to the salt in 2011. Also Air Tech is building us a new body for it, so we can wrap it in something slippery.
Good ?? Maybe it is old school lay down feet out the back style?
Yeah, its a bit of a stretch laid out on it. Footpegs are just ahead of the rear axle. Steering is quite limited, only 15 degrees per side as per the rules, which is lots at speed but a bitch to push around.
Added the roll cage padding because the frame was bruising my chest.
It shifts both transmissions at the same time but the pattern is backwards, 1 up, 4 down.
Both countershafts are coupled together with 530 drag race chain.
We had some issues with the first idler / tensioner, it had an aluminium sprocket and we destroyed it on the last pass. We upgraded to a steel sprocket because I'd hoped to run it again last fall at El Mirage, but that fell through.
Now, it will get a new version using as large a sprocket that we can fit. There is a steel cover that fits over the coupler, I'm going to add a chain lube as well.
