countershaft sprocket assembly question gsxr 1100

88 gsxr 1100, i am putting my countershaft sprocket back on the bike, and factory it says you need a damper and a damper retainer then the nut locks on the sprocket, would it matter if i did not use either of those and had just the nut up against the sprocket?

wouldnt worry about the dampner but i would use the lock washer
