airshifter and a KZ 1075
Okay, I have a 1978 KZ 1000 with a 1075 kit, no cam change, no lightened crank, stock clutch, still has the starter. I'm buying a chassis that is streched and lightened, running a 7 inch slick, airshifter, and no bars. I took my motor to the shop to get my undercut transmission installed and the forks wouldn't operate correctly with the transmisssion. After the fact, my mech. tells me I can run the airshifter with out the undercut tranny. More people have told me I have to have the trans undercut than those saying I don't. I would like to get some clarity from some of the peeps that know, and maybe a better explaination of why. Thanks

without a cut transmission you stand the chance of bending shift forks. with it cut it will shift in almost any condition consider it extra insurance.

You need a cylinder head and cams in that thing.

Weld the crankshaft before you do anything with beefing up the rest of the motor.

I've got that same set-up on a 1980 Z1R and the tranny is stock with a air-shifter, but I would not try spraying it without it being under cut.
I use mine for et bracket M/T 7" slick 6" over swing arm it runs 10.40's
@130 very consistant at 10.50 dialin. Never had it miss a gear.

I would definitely weld the crank and undercut the gears. I have an 1200 with that set up in my KZ1000 that I'm now using on the street. No problems shifting and it can handle the power with ease.

Re: airshifter and a KZ 1075
Once you start missing shifts without back cutting, it just gets worse from there....It will start missing shifts over and over then won`t go into gear.....But if it`s good and you go to a air shifter it will help it last longer because you won`t be missing shifts and rounding the dogs off....
Cranks welding a must if you want it to last.....Get a set of WEB drop in cams will wake it up bigtime....
