    I have a 78 KZ 1075 hi-comp pistons, if I don't crack the throttle open
alittle it will turn over then let go and you can hear the clutch gears
grind. My cure was to crack the throttle open 1/8 vs buying a new clutch
hope this helps. Works for me.
You might have a broken woodruff-key if everything is spinning but the crank.

If you have broke the three bolts buy the new ones and have someone put 6 good tig weld tacks around the starter clutch to the staiter just make sure they use low heat to not hurt the magnets.

I got a few gs bikes and this is a common problem .

Also if you can convert your bike to 24 volts for start it will last alot longer as it gets the starter spinning really good so it wont back lash , and this is what causes the starter clutches to break. And yes i know the starter wont last forever, but it will last longer than dragging it to a motor that has a hard starting issue, hi compression on bigger cams.

This even happens on gs 750 bikes more than you think. Also make shure you at least got a really good battery thats hot on the charge. We started using this new hot battery with 600 cold cranking amps , says it puts out more power than a 100 farad capacitor, It hits the starter great even when you dont try to start it for a few months still spinns the motor great.

PULL THE COVER AND THE IGLER OFF AND GRAB THE BIG GEAR AND TRY TURNING IT .IF IT TURNS ONE WAY AND NOT OTHER ITS GOOD IF IT DPINS BOTH THEN SEE IF THE WHOLE STARTER GEAR IS TURNING .IF ITS NOT TURNING THE STARTER CLUTCH THEN EITHER THE PINS ARE STUCK IN THE STARTER CLUTCH OR YOU GOT IT SO HOT TRYING THAT THE LOTTLE SPRINGS LOST TENSION .

I am checking it out now to see if the starter clutch is the problem. Thanks for the info and it's good to know I am not the only one that has seen this problem. Will the starter clutch be an ongoing problem for me with this bike? This is my first GS based dragbike and I just want to know what to expect. The downside of this situation is that I just had this motor built and have not even ran it yet and I am already having electrical issues!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yea its gonna be a problem but it is manageable.

If you still have the charging rotor its gonna be a bigger problem.

Im working on cutting down a gsxr 1000 charging rotor which weighs alot less on the end of the crank.

Should help with crank end problems if using a charging system.

Well I built the chassis myself and had a guy put my motor together and install already having issues.I guess I am wrong but when you pay someone in full for a service everything shuold be up to spec and ready to go.I fully understand that in dragracing things break and tear up but should you have issues like mine before you even run a bike? Long story short my starter went out as well as my starter solenoid and now it looks like I have a bad starter clutch!!!!!!!

Could be a few things like the rotor nut is not torqued down enough and the starter clutch is slipping on the crank. Or the springs, pins or rollers are worn out, missing or not installed right. If you bump the clutch assy while trying to fit the rotor back in the rollers can pop out and be loose.

If you running a total loss system I.E. no charging system. This is what I did to my starter clutch, drilled the rivit heads off and removed the magnet assy then punch out what left of the rivits. Then assy it back together with three 12.9 grade bolts then torque it down on the crank to 123 foot pounds.
