A question for the Vintage Drag guys
This is a discussion about A question for the Vintage Drag guys within the Old School Bikes section, where you will Nobody gets left out with this forum; I picked up an exdragbike, 1986 GSXR,
I thought it would be cool to do a street legal old skool drag racer.
Question is, are there any DOT legal tires?

Re: A question for the Vintage Drag guys
Shinko
power one
are two that work
look around in some other areas on here you will find there are plenty
if you still got 18 wheels take them off throw them in the junk pile
they are heavy narrow and so far outta date dont even try it
get a set of zx 10 or zx 6 late model wheels look like 86 stock but are 17 and wider
5.5 on the 6
8.5 on the 10
no they dont bolt rite on yes i can make them work
real easy if u get a 250 ninja front wheel hub narrower and rotors are smaller so will fit in the older forks
without having to do miracles

Re: A question for the Vintage Drag guys
Thanks for the info, this build is all about the old skool look.
The bikes primary purpose will be street legal drags and bike nights.
I dont expect to ride it any distance, I have other old skool gsxr's for that.
This is what I am starting with

That 750 frame is junk, I will be using an '88 1100 frame anodized black, swingarm will be powder coated

Re: A question for the Vintage Drag guys
Thanks guys.
Well as much as I know about the oil/air cooled gixxers, I keep learning.
That swingarm will no work on the 1100 frame w/o modification.
I talked to Sandy Kosman, he confirms that the swingarm is a Kosman.
However, he does not remember building arms for the 750. He said that doesnt mean he didnt do it, he just remembers the 1100 arms.
So I think modifying this arm and struts is out of the question. I dont want to modify what could be a rare hard to find item.
I will just have to wait for a good titled 750 frame to come my way.
I know I could put 17 inch wheels on it but I would really prefer to keep the 18's. I think the 18's shout OLD SKOOL

The main problem you will have is not being able to find an 18" rear tire that will hook worth a darn. I went through this with my old CB750 Honda. My next step is to install the set of 17" PM Chicane wheels i have so i can use 17" tire on the bike. There are any number of possibilities on good hooking 17" tires.
Unfortunately, you will have to choose between the look or the hook
