Pro Street Rules Public Statement Sunday, September 27, 2009

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The AMA Dragbike Competition Department would like to clear up any erroneous information regarding proposed rule changes for the 2010 Pro Street division.

There have been rumors that nitrous would be permitted with the combination of turbochargers. Currently this is permitted, but only applies to the 1000cc entries. This will carry forward in 2010 as written in the 2009 Official Rule Book.

We feel the Pro Street division currently has excellent rule guidelines that have seen record entries and competition levels.

The constant changing of rules from season to season forces teams to scramble to re-fit and re-tool their motorcycles during the off season. With these changes comes the need to test in order to be competitive. With testing brings additional expenses by way of travel, track rental and parts attrition.

These necessities add unnecessary costs to a class which is arguably the closest competition in all of professional motorcycle drag racing.

We look forward to the 2010 season in Pro Street with new and familiar faces competing under the same rules carried forward from 2009.

Pro Street Rule Revision - 1000cc Entries Thursday, September 17, 2009

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Production-based motorcycle engines allowed, with any internal modifications permitted. Nitrous oxide may not be used in conjunction with any turbocharged entrants, with the exception of draw through carbureted turbo, V-Twins, or production-1000cc entries. Air or electric shifters permitted. All engines must be self-starting and utilize OEM-style starting systems. No push or roller starts. V-TWINS: Non-production engines may be approved for use in this class, but their concept and design must be approved prior to any construction.

If you have a small inefficient turbo you will be well over 350 degrees at high 20's or low 30's psi to make 440-475 hp. If you have a more efficient turbo, adn head and cam work, and a nice exhaust manifold to make the system more efficient, you don't need to run 35 psi boost to be competitive and make the power needed.
    You're joking right...

I understand efficency of turbochargers. I know that the turbo they're using and the times they produce = at least 270 degrees.

what you are not considering is placement of air temp sensor, samples per second, type of sensor and ambient temps etc and conversion as they measure in centigrade, lots of variables.
