    Default AMA Super Street Class

Is the AMS-1000 Legal for use in the Super Street class?

AMA is not being very clear on their rules and I do not want to get to the race and be told that I cannot run because I do not have the proper boost controller.

right here..2 stage boost controllers only in superstreet...

    4.3.1.1.2 TURBOCHARGING
Limited to one turbo with a maximum turbo inlet opening of 54mm. AMA Dragbike defines maximum turbo size as the maximum allowable diameter of the inlet housing at the point where the leading edge of the compressor wheel meets the inlet housing. All air entering the turbo must pass through this opening. No stepped inducer wheels allowed, the contour from the inducer to the exducer must be continuous with no steps. The leading edge of inducer wheel may not exceed 54mm, and must fit inside the 54mm area of the inlet housing. The use of restrictor plates or stepped inlet housings in an effort to limit compressors with inducers larger than 54mm is not acceptable. Water injection and intercoolers are prohibited. The use of nitrous oxide or other cryogenic fluids as a cooling method is prohibited.Boost controllers will be limited to a 2-stage boost control (waste gate plus one other stage). Initial boost level must be controlled by the waste gate spring only, no pneumatic assist is allowed. The function of the boost controller must be able to be demonstrated to tech with the engine not running. No pneumatic air supply boost control.

Ok I got that but you can set an AMS-1000 to only run 1 stage of boost... but it is pneumatic controlled and it says No pneumatic air supply boost control...

the ams1000 is not legal, period...it is a multiple stage pneumatic boost controller...the ams500 would be legal if I'm not mistaken..contact Seb @ NLR and see what he can do to get you legal..

Why is it illegal? Use manifold pressure as the source and set it up for 1 stage.

This brings up my question, how do you show the tech how that works without the engine running?

Tech has a ams-1000 and is very familiar with it. Flip the activation switch and it will do its thing. He will see its target and also see its not applying anything.

I think AMA is refering to a Mechanical pneumatic controller. Like the controller Timbo had on Victor Gotays SS bike.

The AMS-1000 and AMS-500 are electronicly controlled.

There will be a rule update on this subject by the end of the weekend. The version of the rulebook that ended up on the web was an early working version, and not intended to be the final version. We made a mistake and let it slip through the cracks without updating to the final wording.

In short, only electronic boost controllers will be allowed, as was discussed during the season last year. The controller must use an on-board pneumatic source, such as CO2 or an air tank, and its function must be able to be demonstrated to tech as it is used during the run. The use of turbo-generated air pressure is not allowed.

A boost controller capable of multiple stages, such as an AMS1000, may be used, but it must be set to a single ramp function, and it must be mounted under the seat or bodywork, out of the reach of the rider.

You know I really am kinda pissed off right now because not only did the rule books come out late but there was wrong information written in them and the race is just a few weeks away!

I had my boost controller hooked up with C02 because I heard that is the way it had to be done this year and then someone told me to check the rule book again and when I did it said no air controlled so I took the C02 system off the bike and hooked it up using manifold pressure and now I read a post that I have to use C02!

WTF when your writing the rule books maybe someone needs to look over them before they are given to the racers to set their bikes up according to the rules!
